Description
Take your children from Kindergarten through 2nd grade with our unstructured Primary Unit Program Tools.
Tired of trying to put together your own curriculum, year after year? Try our Primary Unit Program Tools.
Instead of trying to create a unit study structure from scratch, start with one already built for you. Start with our Primary Unit Program Tools for K-2nd grade. With nine history and topical units, it will take your children from the beginning with Creation, and carrying them through Modern times.
Not only do we provide the structure. With our Unit Program Tools, you’ll learn how to naturally integrate history, science. language arts, and fine arts within our units.
And even better? All our Unit Program Tool components cover the same units and topics at the same time, so you can teach history and science to all of your children together.
In addition to that, our Charlotte Mason-inspired curriculum will teach you how to use the best children’s books to teach, (instead of the dry textbooks you might be using now). Along with curated booklists arranged by history unit and topic, we provide a summary of the most significant events and people of each period, assignment choices, project and activity ideas, and across-the-units resources.
Our book selections will keep your children’s attention. Our teaching methods will help your children learn.
With our Primary Unit Program Tools:
- your primary students will inhale beautifully illustrated picture books and high-interest chapter books instead of dull textbooks.
- you’ll have a framework from which to teach while giving your child an understanding of the “flow of history” with our Creation to Modern format.
- you’ll keep your student’s interest and attention by moving to fresh material quickly
- your homeschoolers will learn strong basic science concepts with colorful illustrations and readable content
- children will be ready when it’s time to write with this relaxed, unstructured program emphasizing pre-writing skills
- you and your primary student will have a large variety of hands-on projects/activities to choose from that will help develop fine motor skills while increasing interest and retention in both history and science

I understand about using whole books to teach history and science, but I’m not so sure about the language arts…
Our Teacher’s Manual, included in the Primary Unit Program will teach you how to teach language arts. It also includes how to teach narration and simple dictation. In addition, our teacher’s manual includes phonics checklists and instructions, spelling and handwriting instructions, a Dolch Sight Word List by grade level, and complete instructions on how to choose copy work and use it to teach language arts using the same books you are using for history and science.
Do you already have a phonics program you like? No problem. You can use the Primary Unit Program with a phonics or language arts program you already have on your shelf.
What’s included in the Primary Unit Program Tools?
Our Primary Unit Program Tools includes nine historical units and one resource unit covering from Creation through Modern times. Each unit has a 3-10 page Teacher’s Overview of the most notable people and events of that time period. Our Primary Unit Program also includes a 100+ page Teacher’s Manual covering Kindergarten through Fifth Grades, downloadable digital forms, graphic organizers, and other resources, and nine printable, cut-apart history bookmarks corresponding to our nine history units.
Note: this is a digital product and you’ll be sent a download link as soon as we receive your payment.
How do I use the Primary Unit Program Tools?
Simply read our Teacher’s Manual for how to plan and teach history, language arts, science, and fine arts. Choose to plan your study in advance, or just get started and journal what you read and do after you’ve done it. It’s your choice! We encourage you to use our Unit Program Tools the way that best serves your family. You can:
- Read the Teacher’s overview for each unit
- Choose from our book suggestions labeled by unit and topic and gather your books
- Pick out the assignments and projects from our suggestions or create your own
- Choose a few English skills you want to work on for each week from our checklists
- Choose the copywork illustrating those skills from your history and science books (we teach you how)
- Have your children narrate over their reading
- Journal what you and your children read and do
And that’s it!

I have been homeschooling for several years but had never found a curriculum that really “fit” our family. Until yours. Your unit studies are structured enough to keep me on track but flexible enough to adapt to each of my 6 children. The book selections keep the children’s interest and they learn so much! I assign writing projects at each child’s level based on the week’s history reading, and we also do a weekly project, so it feels like we are immersed in the time period. Your curriculum has been a wonderful blessing for our family!

We have been using this for First grade and we love it, no boring textbooks, and my daughter loves learning and reading all the wonderful books! I would recommend this to anyone who wants to do the Charlotte Mason Method.

I love this curriculum. I have followed the CM method of teaching for my 19 years of homeschooling. I like this curriculum because it has a more updated booklist. We haven’t read a book yet that my boys haven’t liked. I also like the age suggestions on all the books. This helps me figure out which books will be read alouds and which will be read on their own. If you need something that is a guideline for homeschooling that uses CM and Unit Study method than this is the curriculum for you.

After searching through many curriculum choices to find a thorough but easy to use curriculum that integrated History and Language Arts work plus taught History in chronological order, I found the Train Up A Child curriculum. It was the perfect find, and I highly recommend it, especially if you are teaching multiple children at different levels. My children have now all graduated, and I am strongly recommending this curriculum to my daughter who will begin homeschooling her son in just a few short years.
