If you are one of our long-time followers,  you know that Train up a Child Publishing History began with Epi Kardia Home Education!

Beth Hempton and Kara Murphy were the original authors and founders of Epi Kardia, beginning with a Kindergarten Program and later adding the Primary Unit Program Tools.

After a short time, Kara left the fledgling company to focus on her growing family. Just two years later, I joined Beth, and we officially became Epi Kardia Home Education, LLC.

We gradually (as we were both still homeschooling!) added new homeschool curricula over the years, such as our Intermediate, Preparatory, and Secondary Unit Program Tools, Daily Lesson Plans, and some High School courses.

We attended Homeschool Conventions, taught local workshops and writing classes,  set up a library in a local Christian School that used our curricula and were involved in our local homeschooling support group.

In fact, my husband Cameron and I also served multiple times on the board of a support group we helped to found.

Cameron also drew the heart we used on all of our covers and graphics, as you can see on the left.

Some years later, feeling the Lord drawing her back to teaching and writing, Beth discontinued her role in Epi Kardia.

After leaving Epi Kardia, Beth taught classes, first at Classes by Beth and then at Seasons, both her own companies.  Now she has discovered her love for baking and provides local folks with her sumptuous creations.

At the beginning of 2010, Epi Kardia officially became Train up a Child Publishing LLC.

Because my faith in Jesus Christ informs everything I write or create,  I changed the company name to Train up a Child Publishing, from Proverbs 22:6:

“Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old, he will not depart from it.”

(And I think Train up a Child Publishing is easier to remember, recognize, and pronounce, right?)

My mission will always be helping parents raise godly and well-educated generations.  I also tell my Train up a Child Publishing Community that I  believe you can bring your children’s homeschool education to life and have a happy, thriving home.

After home-educating our children through high school, helping them get into college, and seeing them grow into adults who love the Lord (and still love to be with their parents), I have learned a few things. And I would love to share what I’ve learned with you.

Among other things, I write about:

  • Loving your kids well, showing them you believe in them, leading them to the Lord, and training them in good habits
  • Science research-based teaching methods that are based on the way our brains learn
  • Using Charlotte Mason-inspired curriculum and methods to home-educate
  • Teaching with real books instead of boring textbooks
  • Homeschooling books and tools we have used and loved

And, of course, I do my best to walk beside you and give you the emotional support you need to keep going!
