What comes with Daily Lesson Plans?

Today, I’m answering a question from a homeschooling mom asking about what comes with Daily Lesson Plans.

Here’s the question:

I want to make sure that I understand ordering options correctly.  The 1st grade daily lesson plans don’t include the lists of books, the teacher manuals, or the k-2 unit study program tools, right? What comes with the daily lesson plans? I guess what I am really trying to ask is, side-by-side, what are the exact differences between the Daily Plans and the Unit Study Programs?  Thank you for your time.    M.

My short answer is that the Unit Study Tools are programs that provide you with the Unit Study Framework, booklists in history, science, and fine arts that cover three years of study, assignment ideas, a Teacher’s Overview of every time period, and a Teacher’s Manual.

Our Unit Study Tools are unstructured programs. That means that we provide the tools you need to put together your own customized units.

We teach you how to use history and science books to teach history, science, and language arts, and provide you many book suggestions to choose from that are divided by time period and topic. Read more about using our Unit Study Tools here.

Our Daily Lesson Plans are a done-for-you curriculum.

Alternatively, our Daily Lesson Plans are a completely done-for-you curriculum. We provide Daily Plans for one year of homeschooling, integrating history, science, language, and fine arts. It’s a structured program that provides you with:

  • Already-chosen books with specific daily reading assignments, narration prompts, and discussion questions.
  • Weekly themes and objectives, book and supply lists, already-chosen projects with full instructions, so you’ll know exactly what you’ll be doing each week.
  • Automatically integrated history, science, language arts, and fine arts, saving you teaching time and providing you with the best way to teach and learn, according to science.
  • Already-chosen copywork, vocabulary, grammar lessons, and spelling words, chosen from your child’s history and science reading.
  • Science reading, discussion questions, experiments and activities, as well as science and history Memory work.

As well, we give you teaching instructions, answer keys, and weblinks to supplemental information.

Basically, you’ll just have to add the books. (Also, you’ll need a math program and foreign language, if you want it.)

The Bottom Line

So, back to answering M.’s question — you don’t get the lengthy book lists, Teacher’s Manual, etc. in the Daily Lesson plans.

Because you don’t need any of those things.

You’ll already have all the curricula for the subjects we cover that you need to teach for that homeschool year.

However, especially if you have multiple children and need to know the basics of homeschooling them, you may decide to add a Teacher’s Manual to your Daily Lesson Plan order. We have a lower grades Manual that covers K-5th grades, and an upper grades Manual that covers 6-12th grades.

Both manuals talk about how to get organized, plan a course of study, teach the basic subject areas, and provide basic assignment ideas. The upper grades Manual has added sections about tracking high school credits (with forms and examples) and writing high school essays.

If you have any other questions about our Daily Lesson Plans after downloading the sample week, please use the Contact Page link at the top of this page and send me a note. I’d love to hear from you.

Happy planning!
